Who is S.J. Lacy?
Rapper/CEO of On Top Entertainment
He’s performed in over 450 live shows nationally and at local venues, including Essence Music Festival and collaborated with many local Jazz, R&B and Blues recording artists; including in 2007 performed in the phenomenal Theryl DeClouet's music video "I Try" (artist is known as House Man, a soul/R&B singer, best known as the former lead vocalist for the musical group Galactic and born in Hollygrove, New Orleans, Louisiana.) Later, he filmed his first music video for his song titled “Look What You Made Me Do” whereby he portrays himself as a gun that doesn’t want to kill. But, the gun has no choice which leads to a young boy fatally taking his own life. This song relays a powerful message about gun safety and violence. This video was accepted into George Lindsey UNA Film Festival in Florence, Alabama. After that, he wrote a song called “Looking Down on me” and filmed his second music video that is a true story based on his life that is very dear to his heart. The scenario depicts when he comes home and is shocked to find his deceased mother lying breathless on the floor. This video was entered into 2007 Atlanta Hip-Hop Festival and won 1st Place.
S.J. has performed in several Cutting Edge Music Showcases/Concerts in New Orleans and gave an absolutely stellar performance in 2008 at the world-famous Apollo Theatre in New York. This was definitely a “high-point” in his music career, especially rubbing the famous log touched by so many world-famous and legendary entertainers, such as “The Godfather of Soul” Mr. James Brown, “The Queen of Gospel” Mahalia Jackson, Sammy Davis, Jr., Redd Foxx, The Temptations; Smokey Robinson, The Dramatics, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Diana Ross & the Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Sugar Hill Gang, Run DMC, hip-hop artist/mogul Sean “P. Diddy” Combs and many more. When asked, “what was his most memorable experience at the Apollo Theatre,” he stated “seeing the famous wall with legendary artists’ signature and sitting in the same dressing room where Mahalia Jackson sat waiting to go on stage. And, he also recalled looking out into the audience as being surreal - an out of body experience.
In addition, S.J. has opened shows for major recording artists and performed for free at local church benefits to raise money for disadvantage children and the homeless. There is nothing ordinary about S.J. or his God-given talents. Hurricane Katrina did not stop him! In fact, his experiences from this catastrophic event made him realize his strength. It gave him courage, hope and the confidence that he needed to form his own record label, 'On Top Entertainment' in 2006. And so, S.J. began “breaking bread” and recording with so many talented artists from around the city. S.J. has the love and support of his beautiful wife/manager Dionne Lacy and also, their wonderful children, including thousands of loyal fans from near and far who believe in him every step of the way.
Noteworthy: S.J. Lacy released his first album “Take It How You Wanna” in 2000 and sold over three thousand copies in Louisiana, Arkansas and Alabama which is remarkable for an indie artist. His latest album “Dreams 2 Reality” is now available on iTunes, Rhapsody and other internet outlets. Check out S.J. Lacy "feat."
